SCORE
8.5/10

Resin return with the first single from their yet to be released second album (due in early 2015) and it ups the ante considerably from the material on their debut. If you've never heard of them before Resin are probably best described as a Modern Grunge Rock/Metal Band and you'll know full well that Grunge is not my favourite word. However, Resin crossover several genres and have the ability to write very catchy tunes with thought provoking, 'real life' lyrics.

Formed as a three piece acoustic band in 2006 it wasn't until 2010 that they embraced a full band line up and the debut album 'Embrace The Fall' was released at the end of 2012. Although the songs were good on that album, the self production wasn't favoured by the band themselves and they want to spend time getting it right this time around. Regulars on the UK live circuit they have played an increasing amount of showcase gigs including two performances at Bloodstock Festival this year on the New Blood and Acoustic stages thanks to winning The Midlands region Metal To The Masses competition. They were also due to be playing Alt-Fest before it was cancelled. That's the story, now the song!

'Burn' is a cracking track reminiscent of Alice In Chains and, thanks to the first line of lyrics, Clawfinger. Vocalist James Botha has the perfect voice for this type of Rock combining clean and harsh vocals, but he does it well and has that magic word 'variety' in his voice! It's all very well played, with a mixture of tempos, great hook and upbeat chorus. That's quite ironic considering the song is about Teenage Prostitution which is obviously a challenging subject, but it's that sort of combination that make Resin stand out from the crowd. What makes this even better is the fantastic production from Simon Gimli Cliffe of CM Studios in Coventry who just seems to fully understand what Resin are all about and it hopefully bodes well for the remainder of the forthcoming album. Also on this single is a demo track 'Angel', a slower and more brooding song. I'm not sure if this is due to make the album but it's still good!

After interviewing Resin at Bloodstock Festival recently I sense there is something special on the horizon. This band has taken the Grunge genre of the 90's that I didn't like and have given it a makeover into something much more palatable for these ears. A definite name to look out for!
