Fury - Burn The Earth EP (2012)

Well, I've just reviewed the first EP from Fury so it seems only fair to review the second as well. 'Burn The Earth' was originally released in 2012 and it pretty much continues where the Fury EP left off, but with added maturity, refinement and style. In other words this also kicks ass. There are four tracks on 'Burn The Earth but two are around the six and a half minute mark so there is more experimentation and development in the writing.
Immediately noticeable are the improvements in Joel Peters vocals. He was good first time around but the delivery is even better here with him displaying more confidence and melody. All the traits and influences, Thrash, Traditional and NWOBHM, are still present in abundance, but listening to the EP's back to back, you can hear the jump in quality. It's like listening to Maiden's 'Killers' and then 'Number Of The Beast' or Metallica's 'Kill 'Em All' and then 'Ride The Lightening'. Listening to the title track, which kicks things off, with it's very tight, thrash riffs and catchy chorus had me instantly smiling like a loon. Next song 'Dangerous World' is a slower, more brooding affair but no less powerful. It reminded me of Demon and Metal Church in places. 'In To The Dark' mixes both styles superbly, with another killer chorus and enough riffing and soloing from Julian Jenkins and furious drumming from Alasdair Davis to give it a feel of '...And Justice For All' era Metallica and final song 'Life Eternal' is like Testament with cleaner vocals. As before Fury aren't copying other bands, they just seem to have a knack of blending all these styles really well into something completely their own and they really should appeal to a wide audience! Sound wise the EP is again excellent and a lot of that would be down to the mighty Dennis Ward who mastered the EP!
Since this EP they have also released the 'Warrior's Prayer' 7" vinyl single, have gigged constantly including huge performances at Bloodstock Festival, Headbangers Balls Finale and Let's Rock Diabetes Festival in 2013 and have been added to the lineups for Hammerfest VI and Les-Fest 2014. This is a band very definitely on the rise! I've also got to say that I love a proper metal band name, logo and artwork and Fury nail all three whenever they release something, including merch and flyers. Everything looks professional and stands out. Miss them at your peril!
