WATAIN graces the magazine covers of Decibel (USA), Terrorizer (UK), Metalized (DK), Rock Hard (DE), Scream (NO), Sweden Rock (SE), Metallian (FR)
WATAIN's wild hunt starts now! Currently gracing the magazine covers of Decibel (USA), Terrorizer (UK), Metalized (DK), Rock Hard (DE), Scream (NO), Sweden Rock (SE), and Metallian (FR), the Swedish black metal trio is poised to unleash their fifth full-length, The Wild Hunt, in North America next week (August 20th). Amid the tracks teeming with the band's classic sound, the album also features clean vocals, Spanish guitars, and other musical experimentation, with the end result being "their most daring album yet" (Decibel Magazine). For a preview of The Wild Hunt, be sure to check out the previously released singles ("All That May Bleed", "The Children Must Die") and an in-depth interview with vocalist Erik Danielsson here.
Read on for a few international reviews of WATAIN's critically acclaimed new album, The Wild Hunt:
"[WATAIN's] most daring album yet." -- DECIBEL MAGAZINE (USA) "There's a window in time where certain bands are the most dangerous or the most powerful in the world...Right now, that band is WATAIN." -- DEL JAMES (long-time GUNS N' ROSES road manager), DECIBEL MAGAZINE (USA) "...if you were to put WATAIN's catalog alongside METALLICA's, you'd notice an almost eerie mirroring effect: 2000 debut 'Rabid Death's Curse' is WATAIN's 'Kill 'Em All'; 2003's 'Casus Luciferi' is their 'Ride The Lightning'; 2007's 'Sworn To The Dark' is their 'Master Of Puppets'; and 2010's 'Lawless Darkness' is their '...And Justice For All'. Which makes WATAIN's forthcoming fifth LP, 'The Wild Hunt', their 'Black Album,' and the similarities are striking: 'The Wild Hunt' is WATAIN's most straightforward collection, their most traditional rock-based collection; it's also a tremendous leap, from the lofty, daunting - and perhaps inaccessible - peaks previously scaled by the band into a wide, deep, very big pond." -- STEREOGUM.com (USA)
"Doubtlessly one of this year's absolute highlights." -- ROCK HARD (DE) (9/10 points, Soundcheck #2) "...endless darkness, pure emotion and sheer hate soaked in a deep black aura - an insane album! Probably it's already THE black metal record of the year!" -- METAL HAMMER (DE) (7/7 points, Soundcheck #3) "Evil melodies, somewhere between DISSECTION and MAYHEM, the proverbial black fire and a high amount of individuality are mandatory on 'The Wild Hunt'." -- LEGACY (DE) (14/15 points) "'The Wild Hunt' embodies not only the most anticipated heavy record of the year, but also the most important album of WATAIN's career." -- METAL HAMMER (UK) (9/10 points) "Every single song is an explosive revolution." -- TERRORIZER (UK) (9.5/10 points) "Exciting, vital music that grabs you by the soul." -- KERRANG (UK) "'The Wild Hunt' is amazing! WATAIN are the masters! A true icon of the modern Black Metal scene" -- METALLIAN (FR)
"WATAIN adds new influences and colours in its black metal and creates its best album to date. An intense, great work that should attract many new fans." -- ROCK HARD (FR) "The essential extreme metal album of this year." -- ROCK HARD (IT)
