Rainover - Transcending The Blue And Drifting Into Rebirth (2013)
WormHoleDeath/DreamCell11/Aural Music -- Running Time 44:45

According to the press blurb sent with this album Rainover used to be
called 'Remembrances' who were formed in 2003 and released an album in 2006
called 'Crystal Tears'. It then says that in 2011 four of the band members decided to
part ways with the previous singer and choose a new name. Perhaps it's the wording
but that sounds to me like they formed a 'new band' and therefore their history
should start in 2011. To then say that they have been around for a decade and list
all the achievements with Remembrances as being that of Rainover is a just a little
naughty Of course, there could be a number of reasons why things have happened
the way they have but hey, I'm here to review this album!

As such I am treating 'Transcending The Blue And Drifting Into Rebirth' as a debut
album and not a sophomore release, unless I am told otherwise. Rainover are from
Murcia, Spain and play Gothic/Pop Metal with the obligatory female vocalist. 'Andrea
Casanova' (is that really her name?!) is the lady in question and actually has a pretty
good voice without it being outstanding. She sometimes strays into the Tarja mode
of singing without truly being an opera style singer. I suppose you could say that
good but not outstanding is how the whole band comes across really. There is plenty
of Lacuna Coil in their music, and I suspect to many that will be good, but as I've
never really seen why so many people go mad over them or what is so special about
Cristina Scabbia then for me it's just a so-so recommendation.

There is plenty of melody and songs such as 'Despair', 'Oh, My Cross' and 'Dust
And Dawn' are more than adequate but they don't stick in your head and the lack
of variation in pace makes it all sound a touch monotonous. Bassist 'Antonio Perea'
also occasionally supplies vocals but they don't really add to the compositions and
sound a little weak and because of that could do with being higher in the mix or just
not used! Rainover's lineup is completed by 'Anthon Lo' (guitars), 'Quini Pelegrín
(drums) and 'Arturo Hernández (keyboards). 'Transcending The Blue And Drifting
Into Rebirth' might be a great album title and the artwork is very nice, but the music
itself, whilst being pleasant, is too safe and when compared to labelmates Theatres
des Vampires sounds sterile!
