Triaxis – Rage And Retribution (2012) Rocksector Records -- Running Time 53:46 My next few reviews will be focussing on the excellent Rocksector Records, a truly great independent label that has a knack for signing superb up and coming bands in the UK, and looking after them with style. I have already covered Incassum and now it’s the turn of Welsh quintet Triaxis. When I first heard the debut, self released, album from Triaxis in 2009 I have to admit I wasn’t at all sure about them. Well, hard work pays off and having signed to Rocksector and touring heavily over the last four years they returned in October 2012 with their sophomore album ‘Rage And Retribution’ and it is a belting slab of Heavy Metal that has seen them grab a whole new army of fans in the months since its release. Think of classic metal bands such as Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Dio and later era Black Sabbath and mix those with the riffing speed and precision of Megadeth and you have Triaxis. What makes them different though, is that they have two females amongst their ranks. Vocalist ‘Krissie Kirby’ has a wonderful set of pipes. She is a mix of Bruce Dickinson and Heart’s Ann Wilson, but don’t worry, there isn’t a Within Temptation or Nightwish warble anywhere and Rhythm Guitarist ‘CJ Hale’ plays her Jackson Flying V with enough power to down a rhino. Alongside those two Lead Guitarist ‘Glyn Williams’ is out of the top drawer, delivering quality solos that never outstay their welcome or try to do too much and the rhythm section of Bassist ‘Owen Crawford’ and Drummer ‘Giles Wilson’ complement one another perfectly, showing you how the two instruments should work together. On the song front ‘Rage And Retribution’ delivers time and time again. ‘Sand And Silver’, Black Trinity, ‘Under Blood Red Skies’, ‘The Butcher’...the list goes on. Great verses and catchy choruses all spewed out with some serious intent. Triaxis also know when to calm it down though, several songs have quieter passages that work very well and ‘Asunder’ starts of as a ballad and slowly builds to a ferocious end. Production is also excellent, with all instruments being clear and audible. Listening to Rage And Retribution compared to their first album is like listening to Metallica’s Ride The Lightning’ straight after ‘Kill Em’ All. If this improvement continues then album number three could well be Triaxis’ ‘Master Of Puppets’ and we will have something very special on our hands. https://www.facebook.com/Triaxis http://www.triaxis.info/ http://www.mwaweb.com/rocksector.htm
